[GC] XenoGC Short Wire Installation guide
« on: November 21, 2010, 11:15:46 PM »
This guide only covers the short wire install process
Use the search engine if you need help taking apart the Gamecube

Items needed
XenoGC V2 chip
15 watt soldering iron with fine tip
fine solder strand
Desoldering braid
6x 1 inch 30 awg kynar solid strand wire
Flux
tooth pick

Optional items
Pair or powder free, latex or latex free gloves*
Fiber Glass Pen
Q-tip
Isopropyl alcohol

1. Clean the contacts on the xenogc chip with the fiber glass pen or with isopropyl alcohol (use the q-tip to apply alcohol and dry contacts.
Using a tooth pick apply a very thin and I mean thin layer of flux to the contacts.

2. Once the soldering iron is hot apply a small amount of solder to all the contact pads.

3. Clean the contacts on the Gamecube board with the fiber glass pen or with isopropyl alcohol (use the q-tip to apply alcohol and dry contacts.

solder a 1 inch  30awg kynar wire to each of the contacts circled in red in the picture.

4. Now slide the xenogc chip down into place.
Bend the wires on top of the solder pad.
With the tip of the soldering iron touch the solder so it can melt and join the wire.

5.Once done cut the excess wire off.

No need to add glue or tape. Chip will be held in place.
It takes a little longer doing it this way but will look a lot cleaner and no big risk of pulling/ripping a contact pad or via.

I like to use gloves when ever I mod any console.
Our hand and fingers have oils and acids.
When touching metal, copper or any contact that it's not covered by silk print can cause one or all of the following: Rust, oxidation or corrosion.

I really like this guide. I would recommend adding a small strip of electrical tape over the half of the xeno where the soldering has taken place, just as an extra form of protection from dust etc.

great guide, i did long wire instalation based on it. works like a charm with fujifilm printable mini dvd-r's (ritek G04) they are really cheap tho, 25$ for 50 mini dvd-r's was a real bargain.

If you purchased a knockoff xeno mod... this will help you verify a correct installation.
